How to become an iForge Rep

 Recruitment is now open!

We are now recruiting reps to start in Semester Two of the 2023-24 academic year.

Applications will open on the 30th October 2023 and will close on the 1st December 2023.

Anyone can become a Rep!

We encourage students of any background or degree to apply as a Rep. No prior iForge experience is required, and you’ll be sure to find a role or position that will suit your interests and skillsets among the nine teams (see below) that keep us running.

What is the recruitment process?

In the form above, you will be applying for one of the following three team groups. Please review the role description document (above) and choose the group that includes the teams you are most interested in joining.

  1. Front-End (Outreach Teams)- The non-technical teams whose impact is most visible to non-reps with things like events, sponsorships, and social media presence.
  2. Back-End Operational (Operational & People Teams) – The operational teams that keep the iForge inclusive, safe, stocked, financed, and running smoothly.
  3. Back-End (Technical Teams) – The technical teams who take care of the machinery and improve the physical space as well as the software behind all the systems.

We will review applications weekly. If you are successful, you will receive an email the following Sunday/Monday inviting you to an interview. Please make yourself available for a 30 minute interview between Wednesday and the following Tuesday. If you do not hear from us quickly, please be patient, as we may experience delays due to high volumes of applications.

After a successful interview, you will be invited to take part in a 30 minute group activity tailored to your team group preference as well as a 15 minute H&S awareness activity. This will take place during the first two weeks of Semester Two. Following this, you will be trained over a 4 week period in place of regular Rep duties, and you will become a fully trained Rep before Easter.

What is an iForge Rep?

The iForge is a student-led organisation, meaning that is run almost entirely by volunteer students, these are our iForge representatives (reps for short). If you want to be a part of the iForge team, keep a look out for our recruitment periods which are advertised on our Instagram and Facebook!

Being a Rep entails working three hour weekly shifts in the iForge Main Space during opening hours, facilitating the use of the space safely and helping people use the machines.

iForge Reps are also a part of one of the teams that keeps the iForge running smoothly, these are:

    • Events Coordination & Engagement
    • Publicity & Marketing
    • Internal & External Relations
    • Health & Safety and Training
    • Recruitment & Development
    • Logistics & Operations
    • Hardware & Maintenance
    • 3D Printing & Maintenance
    • IT Administration

Which team a Rep is in will depend on their preferences as well as their personal capabilities. Each team does different things for the space, from re-designing the iForge logo to writing the code behind our software systems like the till. Feel free to come into the space while we are open and ask a Rep on shift for more information!
