My balancing robot needed a wired remote controller to be able to steer and drive it around. I had a simple joystick module with a breakout board that was compatible with arduino but it had no long wires and was uncomfortable to hold. I used the iForge resources to make a set of 1m long jumper wires using crimps, shrink wrap and spare breakout board pins. I then designed and lasercut an acrylic plate to hold the joystick module and drilled a hole at an angle to mount the whole construction on an ergonomic aluminium rod.
