My personal project involved designing and building a 4 axis DIY Robot arm with a servo controlled gripper controlled by a bluetooth Android app. I chose to design and build this robot arm as a fun way of learning how to use Autodesk Fusion 360, where the arm was designed to be laser cut out of 5mm Acrylic using the iForge facilities.
The robot arm uses planetary geared NEMA 17 stepper motors for the main axis movements, with hobby servos being used for the end effector rotation and gripper. The design of the arm is comprised of two parallelograms, so that the end effector remains level no matter its position.
The robot arm can be used to repeat a series of pre-programmed movements, such as picking and placing objects.
